IT Field Engineer 3 / Pre-Sales Engineer (South Florida – Fort Myers)
CDS Office Technologies, an Elite 150 MSP recognized by CRN, is expanding into the South Florida market, and is seeking our first technical team member in the region to help support and grow our Managed Services practice.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in launching CDS’s technical presence in South Florida. You will serve as the lead onsite IT resource while also acting as a pre-sales engineering partner to our sales team, supporting technical discovery, solution design, and client presentations as we expand our footprint in the region.

Position Overview
This role is a hybrid of Sales Engineering (Pre-Sales) and Field Engineering (Onsite Delivery/Support). You will be the primary, and initially sole, local technical presence in the Fort Myers / South Florida region, supported by CDS’s centralized help desk and engineering teams.
In addition to hands-on technical work, you will support revenue growth by partnering with local sales to assess prospect environments, translate business needs into solutions, and help position managed services value through strong customer relationships and technical credibility.
This position is ideal for a technically capable professional who enjoys autonomy, client interaction, consultative problem-solving, and being part of building a new market alongside an established MSP.
Key Responsibilities
Pre-Sales / Sales Engineering
- Partner with sales on prospect and client meetings as the technical lead, helping shape scope and solution recommendations
- Perform technical discovery (onsite/remote) including environment reviews, requirements gathering, and risk identification
- Contribute to solution design discussions for managed services, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, network infrastructure, and backup strategies
- Assist with creation of recommended approaches, high-level architectures, and implementation considerations
- Support handoff from sales to delivery by ensuring clear documentation, scope alignment, and expectations are set appropriately
- Identify upsell/cross-sell opportunities through ongoing client engagement and trusted advisor relationships
Field Engineering / Onsite Technical Delivery
- Provide onsite and field-based IT support for client environments including hardware, software, and peripherals
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to servers, networks, security, Microsoft 365, and backup solutions
- Install, configure, and upgrade IT systems according to CDS standards and client requirements
- Perform preventive maintenance, system audits, and security checks
- Coordinate with centralized help desk and engineering teams to escalate, resolve, and standardize client environments
- Document service tickets, inventory, configurations, and client records accurately
- Participate in on-call rotation and emergency response as required
- Serve as the primary technical resource supporting CDS clients in the Fort Myers and South Florida region
Qualifications
- Strong professional and customer-focused communication skills (including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders)
- Hands-on experience providing onsite and field-based IT support for business environments
- Comfort traveling locally to client sites to troubleshoot, assess, and support project work
- Working knowledge of Windows desktop and Windows Server environments
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 administration and Active Directory
- General understanding of networking, security, and backup concepts in a managed services environment
- Ability to troubleshoot independently while collaborating effectively with a remote support team
- Ability to support pre-sales discovery and contribute to solution discussions with sales leadership
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Preferred (Not Required):
- Prior MSP experience
- Experience in technical discovery / assessments / solution scoping
- Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft, Cisco)
Compensation
- Salary range: $70,000 to $85,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications
